The Public Service
Punamukwatijk ~ Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia-based indie-folk band, The Public Service, operate on the foundational belief that sharing your gifts is a public service. TPS serves up high energy indie-rock sing-alongs and a live show that has become their calling card. The Public Service was born when co-frontperson George Woodhouse publicly challenged himself to write and publish a song a week for a year, with a dream to perform in front of a real audience. On the final week, he struck up a band for “one night only”, and called it The Public Service, which was a nod to his government day job. Six years later, The Public Service has released an LP (Songs For The Living), an EP (Live From The Stage at St. Andrew’s) and mulitple singles from their upcoming full-length album set for release in 2026. With recent performances on some of Eastern Canada’s most treasured stages, including The National Arts Centre, TD Music Hall (Massey Hall), and Stan Rogers Folk Festival, TPS is ready for 2026 to be a milestone year. Their five-member band all call downtown Dartmouth home, where they organize and perform an annual all-ages block party for their community. The band features Joss MacNeil on vocals, Jan Lapierre on lead guitar, Justin Huston on bass, Andrew MacCormack on drums, and George Woodhouse on guitar and vocals.
